Program Objectives

General Objective

The Research-Oriented Master’s Program in Theory and History of the State and Law aims to provide learners with advanced expertise in the theory and history of the state and law, together with comprehensive, modern, and in-depth knowledge of theoretical and historical issues concerning the state and law. The program develops research capabilities, professional skills, and qualities necessary to perform specialized professional tasks and meet the increasingly demanding requirements of the labor market. It also provides a foundation in legal thinking, knowledge, and skills for independent learning and research or further study at higher levels.

Specific Objectives

Knowledge

  • Provide foundational knowledge of philosophy and legal research methodology.
  • Provide in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of the state and law, including fundamental theories; the organization of state power; state functions and forms; state–individual relations; the rule of law and civil society; the role of law in protecting human rights; law and sustainable development; legal culture; legal systems; and transformations of the state and law in the context of globalization and digitalization.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge of the history of the state and law in Vietnam and worldwide, including patterns of formation and development; characteristics of the organization of state power and the development and application of law throughout different historical periods; and notable legal codes and enduring ideas concerning the state and law.
  • Provide fundamental and contemporary knowledge of sociology of law, including its role, characteristics, and practical applications in law-making and law enforcement, as well as the sociology of legal behavior and its application in legal services.
  • Develop systematic legal thinking and legal reasoning methods to address professional issues in the field of specialization.

Skills

  • Develop the skills necessary to independently and creatively conduct research into theoretical and historical issues concerning the state and law.
  • Develop the ability to effectively apply acquired knowledge to professional tasks and practical problems.
  • Develop skills in participating in the development, improvement, dissemination, and legal education of legislation, as well as providing legal advice.
