Opening Session: “Official Institutional Education Quality Assessment Survey at VNU University of Law”

On the morning of 28 July 2025, VNU University of Law held the opening session for the “Official Institutional Education Quality Assessment Survey at VNU University of Law.” The University welcomed an external assessment team from the Center for Educational Accreditation, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (CEA), to carry out the official survey.

The external assessment team comprised 7 education quality accreditation experts with extensive experience in management, training and quality assurance, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Van Thuyen, former Chairman of the University Council, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Ngoc Quynh Lam, Director of the Center for Educational Accreditation, VNU-HCM, supervised the team.

Attendees from VNU University of Law included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Diep, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Tien Viet, Acting Rector; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Vice Rector, along with leaders of the University’s units and departments and lecturers and staff who had taken part in the self-assessment process and prepared supporting evidence.

In his welcoming remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Tien Viet said institutional quality assessment is both a legal requirement and something training institutions, particularly established ones in Vietnam, pursue on their own initiative. He said that, over nearly 50 years of development since its predecessor, the School of Law, VNU University of Law has treated the quality of its training, research and community service as central to its identity and development. He described the external assessment as an opportunity for the University to take an objective look at its activities, identify strengths and areas for improvement, and continue raising the quality of education toward sustainable development.

At the opening session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Van Thuyen acknowledged the University’s thorough preparation and cooperative approach, describing it as evidence of the University’s commitment to quality. He said the assessment team would carry out its work on the basis of objectivity, openness and transparency, through document review, stakeholder interviews and on-site observation, in order to provide recommendations aligned with the University’s mission, objectives and vision.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Ngoc Quynh Lam added that the Center for Educational Accreditation was pleased to work with VNU University of Law on this assessment, and that the process, guided by a rigorous set of standards, was intended to provide an objective perspective to help the University improve its operations and build a lasting culture of quality.

Earlier, summarizing the self-assessment process, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Anh said the University had carried out a thorough, systematic self-assessment from January 2024 to June 2025, involving nearly all staff and lecturers through dedicated working groups, to gather and analyze supporting evidence and complete the institutional self-assessment report.

The assessment marks an important step toward institutional accreditation and provides a basis for VNU University of Law to continue improving and carrying out its development plans in the period ahead.
