On 23 September 2022, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1124/QĐ-TTg on the establishment of the VNU University of Law as a member university of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, on the basis of the Faculty of Law directly under VNU.
On 7 March 2000, the President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi decided to upgrade the Faculty of Law from a faculty under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities to a faculty directly under Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
In September 1995, in line with the policy of reorganizing units within Vietnam National University, Hanoi, the Faculty of Law became a unit under the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
Faculty of Law was re-established as a unit under the University of Hanoi
On 30 July 1976, the Minister of Higher and Vocational Secondary Education issued Decision No. 1087, establishing the Faculty of Law under Hanoi University (Trường Đại học Tổng hợp Hà Nội) – the first institution to train bachelor’s-degree lawyers in unified Vietnam, and the predecessor of today’s VNU University of Law.

The University of Law is a member university of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), and a public higher education institution within the national higher education system. The University’s mission is to lead in generating and disseminating knowledge, and in training high-quality human resources in legal science and interdisciplinary legal sciences, in service of national construction and development.
