Faculty of Theory and History of State and Law
The Faculty of Theory and History of State and Law is one of the units of VNU University of Law under Vietnam National University, Hanoi. The Faculty is responsible for teaching and conducting scientific research in fundamental legal sciences, including Theory of State and Law, History of State and Law, History of Schools of Legal Thought, Sociology of Law, and Comparative Law.
The teaching and scientific research programs of the Faculty of Theory and History of State and Law have been and continue to undergo significant innovation and development, with a focus on fundamental research and practical application in policy and law-making; law and development; and access to justice, information, and legal services.
Regarding training and scientific research activities across the various training levels and modes of VNU University of Law, the Faculty is responsible for teaching courses in fundamental legal sciences for the Bachelor’s programs in Law and Business Law; is responsible for the Master’s specialization in Theory and History of State and Law; and co-responsible for the Doctoral specialization in Theory and History of State and Law. The Faculty is currently developing proposals to establish new undergraduate programs in Legal Pedagogy and Sociology of Law to meet practical requirements and align with the position and conditions of Vietnam National University, Hanoi as a multidisciplinary, multi-field, high-quality institution.
In terms of staffing, the Faculty currently has 10 full-time staff members and lecturers, including 01 Professor, Doctor of Science; 01 Professor, Doctor; 03 Associate Professors, Doctors; 05 Doctors; and 02 Master’s degree holders currently pursuing doctoral programs, as well as one Faculty secretary. Nearly 20 adjunct lecturers and collaborators working at legal education and research institutions, state agencies, and economic and social organizations also participate in the Faculty’s teaching and scientific research activities.
The Faculty of Theory and History of State and Law brings together lecturers and scholars with extensive experience, high professional qualifications, and strong reputations in teaching and scientific research, including many leading scholars in the fields of theory and history of state and law. The Faculty’s lecturers have received training, advanced their knowledge, and worked at prestigious universities and research institutes in many countries around the world.
Scientific research activities are regularly conducted by the Faculty as a collective and by its individual scholars and lecturers, serving to innovate and improve the quality of teaching and to provide guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students, while also making an important contribution to the development of Vietnam’s legal scholarship. Faculty lecturers have led or participated in numerous fundamental and applied scientific research projects at the national and ministerial levels, as well as participated in policy and law-making activities. Many scholarly works by Faculty lecturers, including monographs, textbooks, reference books, and scientific articles, have been highly regarded for their quality and orientation toward the development of legal theory, law and development, legal policy, the history of state and law, and legal culture. The Faculty also effectively provides guidance to undergraduate and postgraduate students in conducting scientific research on topics that apply fundamental legal sciences to practical life.
