On the morning of 15 September 2026, the Opening Ceremony of the 537th AUN-QA Programme Assessment was held at the VNU University of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi. During this assessment, the University’s Bachelor’s Programme in International Trade and Business Law is being assessed against the AUN-QA Programme Assessment Standards. Attending the Opening Ceremony on behalf of the AUN-QA Assessment Team were Professor Dr. Wan Ahmad Kamil, Chief Assessor; AUN-QA assessors; and representatives of the AUN-QA Secretariat.
The team directly responsible for assessing the Bachelor’s Programme in International Trade and Business Law comprises Associate Professor Dr. Maria Elissa J. Lao from Ateneo de Manila University, the Philippines, as Lead Assessor, and Associate Professor Dr. Kawin Sipiyaruk from Mahidol University, Thailand, as Assessor. Representatives of Vietnam National University, Hanoi included delegates from the VNU Institute for Education Quality Assurance and other relevant units.
Representing the VNU University of Law were Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tien Vinh, Rector; Associate Professor Dr. Trinh Tien Viet, Vice Rector; leaders of affiliated units; faculty members; administrative and support staff; and representatives of the groups involved in supporting the assessment. Delivering the welcoming remarks, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tien Vinh, Rector of the VNU University of Law, extended a warm welcome to the AUN-QA assessors and Secretariat representatives during their visit to VNU and the University. He affirmed that quality assurance has always been one of the University’s strategic priorities, closely associated with developing a culture of quality and promoting continuous improvement across all educational activities. According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tien Vinh, assessment against the AUN-QA standards is not merely a process of reviewing and benchmarking an academic programme against a quality framework widely adopted across the region. More importantly, it provides the University with a valuable opportunity for dialogue, learning and the receipt of objective professional recommendations from distinguished experts. Through this process, the University can clearly identify the programme’s strengths, determine areas for further improvement and continue enhancing its overall quality. The Rector also acknowledged and expressed his appreciation for the considerable efforts of faculty members, administrative and support staff, students and relevant units in preparing the Self-Assessment Report, compiling the supporting evidence and ensuring the necessary conditions for the assessment. The University looks forward to receiving insightful, candid and practically relevant feedback from the AUN-QA Assessment Team.
Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Dr. Wan Ahmad Kamil, Chief Assessor, outlined the objectives, principles and principal activities of the 537th AUN-QA Programme Assessment. The assessment is conducted in an objective and transparent manner, with a strong focus on quality improvement and open dialogue between the assessors, the University and its stakeholders.
Following the joint opening session, the Assessment Team watched an introductory video about the VNU University of Law and attended a presentation by Dr. Do Viet Cuong, representative of the Faculty of International Law, introducing the Bachelor’s Programme in International Trade and Business Law. The presentation provided the assessors with an overview of the University’s development, educational mission and key activities, as well as the objectives, structure and implementation of the programme under assessment.
From 15 to 17 September 2026, the AUN-QA Assessment Team will review the Self-Assessment Report and supporting evidence; conduct a site visit to inspect the facilities and conditions supporting teaching and learning; and hold interviews and discussions with relevant stakeholder groups. These groups include the University’s leadership, leaders of affiliated units, faculty members, administrative and support staff, students, alumni and employers.
The assessment focuses on key aspects of the programme, including expected learning outcomes; programme structure and content; approaches to teaching and learning; student assessment; the quality of academic and support staff; student support services; facilities and infrastructure; programme outcomes; and systems for quality assurance and continuous improvement.
The Bachelor’s Programme in International Trade and Business Law has undergone a comprehensive review and evaluation following a five-year pilot implementation period. Its assessment against the AUN-QA standards represents an important milestone in the programme’s continued development, contributing to the enhancement of educational quality and strengthening its responsiveness to the needs of learners, the labour market and international integration.
In 2016, the VNU University of Law became the first law education institution in Vietnam to have an academic programme assessed under the AUN-QA standards. Building on this foundation, the University has continued to strengthen its internal quality assurance system and expand the assessment and accreditation of its academic programmes. To date, approximately 75 per cent of the University’s undergraduate and master’s programmes have been quality-assessed under the AUN-QA standards.
This external assessment further demonstrates the VNU University of Law’s commitment to fostering a culture of quality, strengthening accountability and pursuing continuous improvement, with the aim of delivering high-quality academic programmes that meet the demands of regional and international integration.
