On 27 February 2026, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 356/QD-TTg transferring Hoang Minh Son, a member of the Party Central Committee and Director of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), and appointing him Acting Minister of Education and Training.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Minh Son was born in 1969 in Hung Yen province and holds a PhD in Control and Automation Engineering. Before becoming VNU Director, he served as Rector of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Chairman of its University Council, and Deputy Minister of Education and Training.
In his various roles, he has been known for a reform-minded, decisive approach, contributing to university autonomy, digital transformation in education, and improving the quality of high-skilled workforce training, particularly in science, technology and engineering. As VNU Director, he oversaw the development and implementation of the university’s development strategy for the new period, expanded research, and reformed university governance toward a leaner, more efficient and internationally integrated model.
His appointment as Acting Minister reflects the Party and State’s confidence in his leadership, management experience and contributions to the education sector.
